The Finnish packaging manufacturer Carccu® has been awarded the FSC® Chain of Custody certification developed by the Forest Stewardship Council®.
Carccu®, a packaging manufacturer based in Sastamala, Finland, has been awarded the FSC® Chain of Custody (CoC) certification developed by the Forest Stewardship Council®. Wood in a product carrying the FSC® label originates from forests managed in accordance with environmental, social, and economic sustainability principles.
The FSC® label on paper packaging demonstrates commitment to sustainable forest management
The FSC® Chain of Custody (CoC) certification recognizes the work of companies and organizations in promoting sustainable forest management and creates a strong link between forest management and products. The certification is supervised by independent, accredited auditors and it is the only wood product certification that is also supported by WWF, Nature League and Greenpeace. FSC® Chain of Custody certification verifies that the certified materials are tracked and separated from non-certified materials throughout the production process, ensuring compliance with strict environmental, social, and economic sustainability standards.
Work on obtaining the certification started at Carccu® last year as part of the company’s ISO 9001 and ISO 14 001 quality system certification efforts. Last year, Carccu® was also awarded the PEFC Chain of Custody (CoC) for environmental responsibility. The certifications highlight Carccu®’s commitment to ecological advancements in the paper packaging industry.
“The certification is proof from an external audit that we are acting responsibly”, says Lasse Borg, Managing Director of Carccu®.

What is the FSC® Chain of Custody certified paper?
The FSC® certified paper is made from raw materials sourced from forests managed according to strict environmental, social, and economic sustainability principles. The certification, granted by the Forest Stewardship Council® (FSC®), ensures that the certified materials are tracked and separated from non-certified materials throughout the production process.
Is the FSC® Chain of Custody certified paper more expensive?
FSC® Chain of Custody certified paper can be slightly more expensive. However, many businesses and consumers view the added cost as an investment in sustainability, as the FSC® Chain of Custody certification supports forest conservation, fair labor conditions, and ethical sourcing. Choosing the FSC® Chain of Custody certified paper can also enhance brand reputation and appeal to environmentally conscious customers.
What is the difference between FSC® Chain of Custody certification and PEFC Chain of Custody certification?
The FSC® Chain of Custody certification and the PEFC Chain of Custody certification both promote responsible forestry, but they operate differently. The FSC® Chain of Custody certification developed by the Forest Stewardship Council® (FSC®) verifies that the certified materials are tracked and separated from non-certified materials throughout the production process, ensuring compliance with strict environmental, social, and economic sustainability standards. The PEFC Chain of Custody certification developed by the Programme for the Endorsement of Forest Certification (PEFC) ensures that the wood-based raw materials used in Carccu®’s products can be traced from certified forests through the entire supply chain, maintaining transparency and accountability in sustainable sourcing.
