EU Packaging and Packaging Waste Regulation (PPWR)

EU Packaging and Packaging Waste Regulation (PPWR) to Become Applicable on August 12, 2026

The regulatory framework governing packaging will change on August 12, 2026, when Regulation (EU) 2025/40the Packaging and Packaging Waste Regulation (PPWR)becomes applicable. This new regulation replaces the packaging directive that has been in force for more than 30 years.

At the same time, new PFAS limits for food packaging are taking effect and the transition period for the ban on bisphenol A (BPA) in food contact materials ended in July.

In response to these regulatory changes, Carccu® has updated its product documentation and Declarations of Compliance to meet the new requirements.

The updates include, among other things:

  • PFAS and heavy metal limits have been verified throughout the supply chain in accordance with Article 5 of the PPWR.
  • Products do not contain BPA or other prohibited bisphenolsin accordance with Regulation (EU) 2024/3190.
  • Food contact compliance has been verified in accordance with Regulation (EC) No. 1935/2004Commission Regulation (EU) No. 10/2011, and the applicable Good Manufacturing Practice (GMP) Regulation.
  • The origin of virgin-certified fiber can be demonstrated through PEFC and FSC Chain of Custody certification, supported by quality and environmental management systems compliant with ISO 9001 and ISO 14001.

At Carccu®, food safety remains the foundation of everything we do—even as regulations evolve and multiple legislative requirements overlap. Every product is supplied with an up-to-date Declaration of Compliance supported by documented evidence.
